Missionary Quotations: Amy Carmichael

Amy Carmichael (1867-1951)

This is from the blog Grace and Truth:

"We profess to be strangers and pilgrims, seeking after a country of our own, yet we settle down in the most un-stranger-like fashion, exactly as if we were quite at home and meant to stay as long as we could.  I don't wonder apostolic miracles have died.  Apostolic living certainly has."

The Cult of Imitation

A.W. Tozer

This is from the blog wordsoffaithandgooddoctrine:

“The first cult dominating Christianity today is to imitate what we see outside of the Church. This is a characteristic of immaturity, like a little toddler who sees someone do something and tries to imitate it without knowing what it really means. The secular media in America sets the standards for us in the Church. Churches now have 'programs' directed by 'emcees'. This is directly from the world of entertainment. This sacred cow of the world has been brought into the sanctuary of the living God. The Church naively imitates what it sees in the world without any regard to consequence.

"There was a time when the Church set the standard for music. Then the world imitated the Church. Men like Beethoven, Mozart and Handel set the whole world singing, and the focus of their music was the Church. We no longer initiate our music; rather, we pipe in the music of the world around us. Now we go tramping out into the world in order to import into the Church the sounds of the world. We offer this 'swine' on the altar of Jehovah. What blasphemy. We have so much more to offer God. Importing the culture around us instead of adoring the nature and character of Christ within us is the sad reality of today’s Christian.

"Our literature is no different. If there is a best seller out in the world, you can be sure it will be imitated in the Church eventually. Instead of writing great literature that honors God, the Church and the things of heaven, we are duplicating the dreary, morally questionable literature of the world. It seems to be a trophy to some writers to see how close to the edge they can get and not fall over. I have a news bulletin. They are not in danger of falling over the cliff; they have already fallen and do not know it yet.

"The reason for this is that Christianity is greatly misunderstood even by those who claim to be Christians. True Christianity is a mystery, a wonder, something alien and transcendent in this world. The Christianity of the New Testament is incomprehensible to the world. There is absolutely no way to build a bridge between the world’s standards and the Church’s standards.

"Some say it is a great honor and a mark of achievement to write a book acceptable both to the world and to the Church. Something is wrong here. I cannot find anything in the Scriptures or even in Church history that in any way suggests compatibility between the world and the Church. The taste of the Church should be infinitely higher and greater than the world’s. What satisfies the Church should in no way satisfy the world. The true Christian has an insatiable appetite for Christ and the things of Christ, while the world has no such appetite.

"Christ stands alone, and He does not imitate; neither does He court the world in a lame attempt to win the world. Many evangelical churches are closer to the world than to New Testament standards in almost every regard.”

The Death of President Lyndon Johnson

President Lyndon Johnson

Dreams from the LORD 2011-2015
11 August 2015

Last night I had a very long dream, but most of the details are gone from me now.  The part of the dream that I remember was at the very end.  I was with President Lyndon Johnson (1963-1969) and he was acting very strange.  We walked into this room where he knelt down and put a loaded revolver to his head.  I closed my eyes and put my hands over my ears and said, “Don’t do it!”  I opened my eyes and saw the dead body of President Johnson—it looked like he had put a bullet through his head; his face was covered with blood.

Maybe this dream means that President Johnson’s brand of liberalism will die out in the future.

Dreams from the LORD 2011-2018

Last night I had a dream where I saw a younger LBJ:  he wasn’t President, but still a U.S. Senator.  LBJ was talking with a few other U.S. Senators.  They were conspiring against JFK.  It was a very long dream, but most of the details are gone from me now.

In this dream, LBJ represents the Deep State; JFK represents President Donald Trump.  The Deep State is comprised of establishment Democrats and Republicans who are trying to undermine President Trump’s agenda.  Some people think that LBJ was behind JFK’s assassination in 1963.

If powerful men cannot kill you, they will engage in character assassination and smear campaigns to ruin your reputation.

Eighteen Years in a Cuban Prison

Translation:  "Cuba:  The Island Prison"

6 August 2015

Today I hitchhiked from Belgrade through Three Forks and Townsend to Helena, Montana.  I spent some time at the library in Helena and then started walking across town.  I was a few miles west of Helena on U.S. 12 when this tractor-trailer pulled over.

I climbed up into the cab and put my backpack on the mattress in the sleeper.  The truck driver's name was Jose and he was originally from Havana, Cuba.  It was difficult to understand him; he spoke in broken English.

We didn't talk too much.  We listened to some American music and then we listened to some Cuban music.  Jose gave me a couple of Cokes to drink.  He told me that he had been in the United States for ten years--since 2005.

Jose said that he loved being in America and that he would never go back to Cuba.  He thought that Montana and Pennsylvania were the most beautiful states that he had seen.

As we got closer to Missoula on I-90, Jose said that he had spent eighteen years in prison in Cuba.  He said that he did not like Castro's politics.  He told me that he went through electric shock torture and he showed me some scars on his head.  He showed me his hands:  his fingers were flat and swollen; I think his hands were broken while in prison.  He kept repeating, "Look at my hands!  Look at my hands!"  It was hard to understand his Cuban-accented English.  They may have broken his hands in prison, but they did not break his spirit.

Jose said that the Cuban authorities finally let him and his family go to America.  He was very happy to be in America.

Jose dropped me off at the Van Buren Exit in Missoula.  We shook hands, I climbed down from the cab and he headed to Spokane, Washington.

In the video above, this hunter was out in the woods when he saw this eagle.  He asked the Lord if he could get closer to the eagle.  The eagle few over to the hunter and landed on his shoulder.  I have never heard of that happening before.  Praise the Lord!
