A Place Utterly Decadent by Reputation

Ruins of San Francisco, 1906

Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006
5 April 2006

In the latest National Geographic (April 2006 issue), there is an article about earthquakes that begins on page 120. On pages 128-130 there is a panoramic photograph taken of San Francisco after the April 1906 Earthquake/Fire. The caption under the photograph reads: “Some 500 blocks had been leveled and 225,000 people made homeless. Death-toll estimates run to 3,000 or more making this the deadliest quake in U.S. history.”

On page 127: “In April 1906 the city was the commercial and financial powerhouse of the West, a crucible of great fortunes, a place utterly decadent by reputation, gorgeous by any definition, with some 400,000 citizens and perhaps as many bars.”

“A place utterly decadent by reputation . . .” Sounds like New Orleans just before Hurricane Katrina hit and destroyed most of it in 2005. The destruction of New Orleans by the hand of God was because of sin. New Orleans has always had a reputation as a party town, e.g. Mardi Gras. Wherever there is a big party there is drunkenness, drugs, prostitution, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, etc. The fruit of such sin is abortion and the destruction of the family structure, like divorce.

New Orleans was destroyed because of sin. London in 1666 was destroyed by fire because of sin. I believe that the Lord will continue to destroy certain cities and towns and judge certain nations because of their sin.

If a city has an economy based on righteousness, that city will prosper because it is built on a Rock. A city whose economy is based on sin will eventually fall.

Genesis 18: 20-21: “And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.”

Genesis 19: 13: “For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it.”

Genesis 19: 24-25: “Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.”

New Orleans. San Francisco. London. Unreal. Unreal city. T.S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land.”

What city is next? I was talking to a Christian a couple of weeks ago and he thinks Las Vegas could be next. I hitchhiked twice through Las Vegas in December of 2005. It was very hard to get rides out of Vegas. I did a lot of walking through that city. I don’t care to go back.

Proverbs 10: 29-30: “The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.”

Proverbs 12: 7: “The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.”

The Lord Always Has the Final Word

Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006
17 July 2005

John 11: 9-10: "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him."

__________

A couple of nights ago, I walked over to where Wes was staying--his sister Mary's house--and we had good fellowship. We later met Sarah (Mary's housemate) and Lee (Sarah's boyfriend). We all talked for a quite some time on the things of God. I guess Sarah had been reading some of my Journal and she was genuinely interested in what the Lord was doing in my hitchhiking journeys.

Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? It was all unplanned; it was spontaneous. The Lord had it all set up and we walked right into it and had great fellowship. It was all very edifying and refreshing.

__________

II Samuel 21: 1: "Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David inquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites."

Everything happens for a reason. If there is famine, drought, earthquakes, floods, plagues, wars, etc., it all happens for a reason. The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake happened for a reason; the same thing applies to the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake/Tsunami--it was because of sin. The Black Death that ravaged Europe in the Middle Ages killed 30% of the population--it was the hand of God. When the Vikings ravaged the coasts of Europe, it was considered the wrath of God. I believe that it was God's will that Pearl Harbor was attacked on 7 December 1941 so that the United States would wake up, build up its military and be a beacon of light of freedom for the rest of the world.

There is a reason why certain demons were cast out of me when I was 28 years old and why some demons were cast out of me when I was 39 years old. The Lord has the times and the seasons in his hand. The Lord is still delivering me from demons. As the Word of God and the Power of the Holy Ghost becomes more engrafted into my spirit, the freer and stronger I become. Jackson, Wyoming was not built in one day. Sanctification and freedom are gradual. I am freer and stronger in Christ than I was five years ago. There is always room for spiritual growth. After one demonic stronghold is taken out, then we go to a deeper level and take out another stronghold. It all takes time.

Why did famine happen in David's time and not in Saul's time? Maybe because David was a man after God's heart and the Lord knew that David would make things right with the Gibeonites. When David gave the seven sons of Saul to the Gibeonites, the Gibeonites hanged them and the wrath of God was appeased. Unrepented sin can be hidden for a while, but not forever. Famine, plague and sword are just a few ways that the Lord pleads with mankind to repent of sin. The Lord always has the final word. Things always happen in His time.
