Timeline of a Miscarriage - My First Prophetic Dream

1987 - I began attending a church in Ames, Iowa called Great Commission Church (now called Stonebrook Community Church). I didn't like going to that church (little to no Christian fellowship), but I knew the Lord put me there for a reason. Maybe the Lord was using me to reach out to someone. I met this young lady, Dawn Lehmann, at that church--probably during the winter of 1987-88. I ended up going to that church for one year, then I started going to another church in Ames.

1988 - I began attending the First Assembly of God in September of that year.

1989 - I think it was in April of that year, that the leaders of Great Commission Church kicked me out of the house I was living in. I told them that I was baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues and that I had been delivered of many demons. They didn't like me talking about the Baptism in the Holy Ghost and they definitely did not like me talking about deliverance from demons. Three of my housemates attended Great Commission Church. The next day, I moved out of that house and moved into another house with someone just up the street; he attended the First Assembly of God.

In August of 1989, I moved back into that previous household. The leaders of Great Commission Church that kicked me out had moved to Colorado in the past few months. I began to go to school at Iowa State University in the fall of 1989.

I learned from one of my housemates that Dawn Lehmann had gotten engaged. I think that was in September. I phoned her and told her that she shouldn't be getting married. I was saddened for a short while that she was engaged, but if she liked Great Commission Church that much, she was not going to be my wife. I thought Great Commission Church was lukewarm and shallow.

In December of 1989, Dawn Lehmann got married to Gary Harris. I attended another wedding on that same day (David and Annette Janecek). It was 20 degrees below zero F. I thought it was the worst day of the year to get married. The wedding I went to was not blessed, it was not edifying. That couple whose wedding I attended had a miscarriage in January of 1990. A foreshadowing of things to come.

1990 - A week before that couple had the miscarriage, I was in my study room in the basement of my house. All of a sudden, in the power of the Holy Ghost I stood up and pointed in the direction of that couple's house and exclaimed, "If you don't repent of your sin, you will lose that baby!" I didn't know at the time that she was pregnant.

A week or so after that prophetic warning, that couple talked to me after a church service and told me that she had a miscarriage a week before. She asked me if she had done something wrong. I didn't know what to say. I was a bit surprised that the prophetic warning that came out of my mouth had come to pass.

I think it was in the early summer of 1990 that I was invited to a wedding that would take place in late August or early September. My first reaction was that I wasn't going to go to the wedding. The people who had invited me went to Great Commission Church. Then the Lord told me that I was going to go to that wedding. Obedience is better than sacrifice. God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts.

I went to the wedding. While I was sitting in the pew of the church, I could feel the hair on the back of my neck stand straight up. I later learned, that sometimes when a curse is broken, the hair on the back of your neck stands straight up. I believe a soul tie may have been broken (a soul tie with Dawn Lehmann). After the wedding, people were standing outside the church milling around and talking with each other. I noticed Dawn talking with some women and she looked like she was pregnant. After we drove back to our house, I mentioned this to one of my roommates. He said that a week or so ago, Dawn and Gary had informed the church that she was pregnant; they did an ultrasound and they were expecting twins.

A week after the wedding I had a dream. Here is the dream (this was my first prophetic dream):

"On 7 September 1990, I saw a woman that I knew in a dream.  She was pregnant with two babies.  I could see the two babies in her womb and then both turned black.  I saw myself vomit and the name of this woman passed before my eyes. When I woke up, I was very disturbed.  She had the miscarriage on 7 January 1991."

For the next four months, everywhere I went I saw the word "miscarriage". I saw "miscarriage" in newspaper articles, magazine articles; I probably heard "miscarriage" in conversations. The Lord was getting my attention. I kept telling the Lord, I don't want someone to have a miscarriage. Why am I seeing "miscarriage" everywhere?

1991 - I think it was January 3rd or 4th when the Lord showed me that something was going to happen on the 7th of January. At the time, I was working at Hanson Lumber Company. On the 7th of January, I was driving the Hanson Lumber delivery truck just north of Huxley, Iowa. I saw this vehicle drive towards me in the opposite lane. The vehicle's license plate said, "DETH". The word "DETH" hit me like a ton of bricks.

My first thought was, am I going to die today? Or is somebody else going to die today? It was very unsettling. I was somewhat bent out of shape.

I got off work at 7 PM and went home. As I walked through the kitchen and past the phone, the phone rang (perfect timing). I answered the phone and Vanessa, a friend of mine who later married one of my roommates, spoke to me. She was very agitated and out of breath. She said that Dawn Harris was in a traffic accident north of town and both of her babies died. Dawn survived the accident.

I hung up the phone and ran over to where Vanessa was working. It was a print shop on Welch Avenue. We sat down in her office and we prayed for Dawn. I think it was then that I told Vanessa about the dream that I had in September.

II Samuel 12:14: "Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die."

Amos 3:7:  "Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets."

Revelation 3:16:  "So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."

A Guest Speaker at a Church

21 May 2025

Last night I had a dream where I was in this church I used to attend in 1987-88.  It was Great Commission Church in Ames, Iowa (now called Stonebrook Community Church).  I was sitting in one of four chairs on the platform--just behind the pulpit.  I was the guest speaker at that church.  I noticed two people in the congregation:  a man and woman (Gary and Dawn Harris).  The woman stood up and ran to the back of the church--probably to talk to someone.  I was very curious as to why I was in that church, because I really didn't have much fellowship at that church back in 1987-88.  The dream was so real, I actually thought that this had happened.

Casting Demons OUT of the Jabbed

This is from Richard’s Watch Telegram – forwarded from DeepCallstoDeep:

Hi everyone. My wife and I had an interesting encounter today.

We were asked to pray for 2 couples after church service today. One couple has been trying to get pregnant for 5 years without success. The other couple has had 2 miscarriages since June last year. We checked through with them the doctors’ report on their medical conditions. One husband was told by his doctor that his sperm was “weak”. His wife has cysts. The other couple who had 2 miscarriages are normal.

My wife felt led to ask them about their vaccination experiences. They reported having had both Astra Zeneca and Pfizer shots. They completed the required 2 or 3 shots.

We started prayer for them by asking the Spirit to come and bring His glorious presence to the room where we were meeting. One of the wives reported smelling a fragrance in the room. When we prayed for the Lord to remove the spike proteins, hydrogel, nanoparticles, graphene oxide, PEG and aluminium oxide, both the wives vomited stuff out. Both husbands felt sharp pains in their lower back, kidney, liver areas which gradually moved up their body and came out in burps and yawns. One of the husbands lost complete use of the left side of his body, as though he had a stroke. All of them reported feeling some things moving in their bodies and all of them could not stop yawning for several minutes. The wives would spit out something now and then.

After about 30 minutes of prayer, thanksgiving, calling for them to be filled with the Spirit, and commanding all the various ingredients commonly found in the vaccines to leave, they stopped all the manifestations and returned to normal. The last to get normal was the husband who lost the use of the left side of his body. He suddenly had strength again after we commanded the blood vessels on his left side of the body and the right side of his brain to be cleared of all blockages, and also all spirits that came in with the vaccines to leave.

We were very surprised at what happened because the reactions were similar to being delivered from demons. What do you all make of it?

A Dream of a Miscarriage

Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006 (Part I)
9 December 2003

I started having dreams from the Lord in 1990.  Around 7 September of that year, I had a dream of a miscarriage of a young lady I knew in Ames, Iowa.  [Her name was Dawn Lehmann (now Dawn Harris)].  The miscarriage happened on 7 January 1991.  I had several dreams concerning this woman while I was living in Ames.  I thought that the reason why I had several dreams concerning this young lady was that she would be my wife someday.  But now I look back and I believe the Lord was telling me that the reason she had the miscarriage was because of the dead church that she belonged to [Great Commission Church; now called Stonebrook Community Church]—they rejected the Holy Ghost, they did not live by faith and they were conformed to the world.

10 December 2003

On 7 September 1990, I saw a woman that I knew in a dream.  She was pregnant with two babies.  I could see the two babies in her womb and then both turned black.  I saw myself vomit and the name of this woman passed before my eyes. When I woke up, I was very disturbed.  She had the miscarriage on 7 January 1991.

[I believe the reason why I vomited in that dream is because that woman was part of a lukewarm church.  I vomited the woman out of my mouth or I vomited the name of the woman out of my mouth.  Revelation 3:16:  "So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."]

Ezekiel 21:27: God's Judgment on the Wicked

Dreams from the Lord 2011-2021

16 November 2021

Last night I had a dream where I met two of my classmates from high school.  We were smiling and talking with each.  It was a positive dream.

The last time I saw these guys, they were not that friendly with me.  One guy I saw in 1983 and the other guy was in 2001.  As I waited on the Lord and reflected on the dream, I believe the Lord showed some significant things in the dream.  To get gold, silver and precious stones, most of the time you have to dig deep to find the gold.  Wood, hay and stubble are above ground; gold is below ground and it does take some effort to extract the gold from the ground.  Waiting on the Lord is digging deep for the gold of revelation.

Both of these high school classmates of mine have something in common.  The guy that I saw back in 1983 worked in Estherville, Iowa at that time.  The other guy that I saw in 2001 later worked in Estherville.  So maybe Estherville is the key.  (I have read the Book of Esther many times over the years, but I don't think that Estherville represents the Book of Esther in this dream.)  The fact that we were all smiling at each other and talking with each other meant that we were all in agreement on something; we were all on the same wavelength.  In the mouth of two or three witnesses, let every word be established (Matthew 18:16).

Something very providential happened to me in Estherville back in 2002.  I hitchhiked from western Nebraska all the way to Estherville in one day.  I got dropped off in Estherville at around 10 PM.  I was walking down main street when I noticed this car drive past me, pull into this parking lot and stop just before I walked past it.  This guy popped his head out of the window and asked, "Are you Tim?"  I was surprised and I said yes.  He told me to get in the car.  He told me that he had picked me up hitchhiking north of Humboldt, Iowa three months previous.  He was a Christian.  We drove to his apartment and he told me that the Lord told him to give me a scripture.

We walked up to his apartment, he took his Bible, opened it up and showed me Ezekiel 21:27:  "I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him."  Ezekiel Chapter 21 is full of God's judgment on the wicked.  Maybe this dream is confirmation that we are going to see much more of God's exposure and judgment on the wicked at this time.  Maybe Ezekiel 21:27 is being fulfilled now or in the very near future.

Psalm 92:7:  "When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever."

Praying in Tongues

Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010
22 February 2008

A little over a week ago, I was walking out of Kooskia, Idaho when this lady picked me up. Her name was Fran and she lived in the Kooskia neighborhood. We started talking and she told me that she had been trying to quit cigarettes for quite some time. I asked her if she would like for me to pray with her. She agreed and pulled over by the river and let her dog run around for a while. I put my hand on Fran’s shoulder and began to pray in the Holy Ghost (praying in tongues).

I prayed for a short while and then Fran looked at me and told me that she could pick out some of the words that I was saying. (Since around April of 1989, I have been praying in a French tongue. Before that, I spoke in another tongue.) She told me that it sounded like the French spoken in the Caribbean or in Asia (probably the former French Indonesia). Fran recognized the words: “Father”, “heaven”, “church”, “mother”, “feeding” and maybe a couple of other words. She said that she had studied French for nine years. I told her that I had studied German for two years in high school and one year in college—and that I had never studied French in my life.

I remember I was hitchhiking in Montana a few years ago, and this one guy picked me up and he asked me to pray in the Holy Ghost. He said that he was a French major in college and that he had spent several years in France. He told me that the tongue that I prayed in sounded like the French spoken in the Middle Ages.

Two or three years ago, I was staying in Pomeroy, Washington with a family and I laid my hands on the husband and the son and prayed in the Holy Ghost. The wife had studied French and she said that she heard me say, “it is so, it is so” and, I think, “praise.”

Back in the fall of 1989, I was taking a linguistics class at Iowa State University and there was this young lady from Kuwait in that same class. I asked her what languages she knew and she told me that she new Arabic, English and French. So I told her that I was a Pentecostal Christian (she was probably a Muslim) and that I prayed in tongues. She asked me to pray, and after I had prayed just for a short while, she got this surprised, flabbergasted look on her face.

She looked at me in great wonder and asked, “You don’t know what you are saying?”

I answered, “No.”

She asked again, “You REALLY don’t know what you are saying?”

“No. I really don’t. I have never studied French.”

She kept staring at me in wonder and astonishment.

So I asked her, “Do you know what I am saying?”

With a beautiful smile, she answered, “You are singing to your Father up in the sky.”

We were all (there were several girls and myself) sitting on the floor outside the classroom door waiting for the class to begin. A couple of the girls asked me some questions about praying in tongues. The young lady from Kuwait kept staring at me.

A week or so later, the young lady from Kuwait told me that she went back to her apartment and told her younger sister about my praying in tongues. Her sister was more surprised than she was. I remember telling her to read about tongues in Acts 2:4 and she told me that she had heard about praying in tongues before she had met me. Maybe the Lord used her to minister to her sister and she didn’t even know it. It seemed like her sister was more interested in tongues than she was. Sometimes that is how the Lord works. The Lord’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts; He can see much farther than we can. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

Acts 2:1-11: “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galileans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygian, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.”

Praying for Jessie

Mark 16:17:  "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues."

Romans 8:26-27:  "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God."

I Corinthians 14:2:  "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."

I Corinthians 14:4:  "He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church."

Ephesians 6:18:  "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints."

Jude 1:20:  "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost."

Blaise Pascal

Blaise Pascal, 1623-1662

Back in 2002 this guy picked me up while I was hitchhiking through Humboldt, Iowa.  A few months later he saw me walking through Estherville, Iowa and showed me Ezekiel 21: 27 (which is very significant to me).  He later sent me a letter and told me about Blaise Pascal (1623-1662) and a book written about him by Karen Armstrong.  I have read maybe one page of Pascal’s Pensees.

Armstrong writes:  “On the night of November 23, 1654, Blaise himself had an experience which lasted ‘from about half-past ten in the evening till about half an hour after midnight’ (November 24) and which showed him that his faith had been too remote and academic.  After his death, his ‘Memorial’ of this revelation was found stitched into his doublet:

          FIRE

‘God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob’
          Not of philosophers and scholars.
          Certainty, certainty, heartfelt, joy, peace.
          God of Jesus Christ.
          God of Jesus Christ.
          My God and your God.
‘Thy God shall be my God.’
The world forgotten and everything except God.
He can only be found by the ways taught in the Gospels.

“This was not the God of the philosophers, but the God of revelation.”

Armstrong later writes:  “Faith, he insisted was not a rational assent based on common sense.  It was a gamble.  It was impossible to prove God exists, but equally impossible for reason to disprove His existence . . . This gamble is not entirely irrational, however.  To opt for God is a win-win solution.  In choosing to believe in God, Pascal continued, the risk is finite, but the gain is infinite.  As the Christian progresses in the faith, he or she will become aware of a continuous enlightenment, an awareness of God’s presence that is a sure sign of salvation.  It is no good relying on external authority; each Christian is on his own . . . Faith is not intellectual certainty, but a leap into the dark and an experience that brings a moral enlightenment.”

Ezekiel 21: 27:  "I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him."

Genesis 49: 10:  "The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be."

A.W. Tozer on Blaise Pascal's "Fire" from Tozer's book Whatever Happened To Worship?:

Page 91:  "Were these the expressions of a fanatic, an extremist?

"No.  Pascal's mind was one of the greatest.  But the living God had broken through and beyond all that was human and intellectual and philosophical.  The astonished Pascal could only describe in one word the visitation in his spirit:  'Fire!'

"Understand that this was not a statement in sentences for others to read.  It was the ecstatic utterance of a yielded man during two awesome hours in the presence of his God.

"There was no human engineering or manipulation there.  There was only wonder and awe and adoration wrought by the presence of the Holy Spirit of God as Pascal worshiped.

"What we need among us is a genuine visitation of the Spirit.  We need a sudden bestowment of the spirit of worship among God's people."

Louis Kossuth, Hungarian Patriot - William Cullen Bryant

By William Cullen Bryant

[Address in which William Cullen Bryant introduced Louis Kossuth at the banquet given in honor of the Hungarian patriot by the Press of New York, December 9, 1851.]

“. . . The Washingtons, the Franklins of Hungary, her sages, her legislators, her warriors, expelled by a far worse tyranny than was ever endured here, are wanderers in foreign lands. Some of them are within our own borders; one of them sits with his companions as our guest to-night, and we must measure the duty we owe them by the same standard which we would have had history apply, if our ancestors had met with a fate like theirs.

“I have compared the exiled Hungarians to the great men of our own history. Difficulty, my brethren, is the nurse of greatness—a harsh nurse, who roughly rocks her foster-children into strength and athletic proportion. The mind, grappling with great aims and wrestling with mighty impediments, grows by a certain necessity to their stature. Scarce anything so convinces me of the capacity of the human intellect for indefinite expansion in the different stages of its being, as this power of enlarging itself to the height and compass of surrounding emergencies. These men have been trained to greatness by a quicker and surer method than a peaceful country and a tranquil period can know.

“But it is not merely, or even principally, for their personal qualities that we honor them; we honor them for the cause in which they so gloriously failed. Great issues hung upon that cause, and great interests of mankind were crushed by its downfall. I was on the continent of Europe when the treason of Gorgey laid Hungary bound at the feet of the Czar. Europe was at the time in the midst of the reaction; the ebb tide was rushing violently back, sweeping all that the friends of freedom had planned into the black bosom of the deep. In France the liberty of the press was extinct; Paris was in a state of siege; the soldiery of that Republic had just quenched in blood the freedom of Rome; Austria had suppressed liberty in northern Italy; absolutism was restored in Prussia; along the Rhine and its tributaries, and in the towns and villages of Wurtemberg and Bavaria, troops withdrawn from the barracks and garrisons filled the streets and kept the inhabitants quiet with the bayonet at their breasts. Hungary, at that moment, alone upheld—and upheld with a firm hand and dauntless heart—the blazing torch of liberty. To Hungary were turned up the eyes, to Hungary clung the hopes of all who did not despair of the freedom of Europe.”

“Russia did not misjudge. If she had allowed Hungary to become independent and free, the reaction in favor of absolutism had been incomplete; there would have been one perilous example of successful resistance to despotism; in one corner of Europe a flame would have been kept alive, at which the other nations might have rekindled among themselves the light of liberty. Hungary was subdued; but does any one, who hears me, believe that the present state of things in Europe will last? The despots themselves scarcely believe it; they rule in constant fear, and, made cruel by their fears, are heaping chain on chain around the limbs of their subjects.

“They are hastening the event they dread. Every added shackle galls into a more fiery impatience those who are condemned to wear it. I look with mingled hope and horror to the day—the hope, my brethren, predominates—a day bloodier, perhaps, than we have seen since the wars of Napoleon, when the exasperated nations shall snap their chains and start to their feet. It may well be that Hungary, made less patient of the yoke by the remembrance of her own many and glorious struggles for independence, and better fitted than other nations, by the peculiar structure of her institutions, for founding the liberty of her citizens on a rational basis, will take the lead. In that glorious and hazardous enterprise, in that hour of her sore need and peril, I hope she will be cheered and strengthened with aid from this side of the Atlantic; aid given, not with a parsimonious hand, not with cowardly and selfish apprehension lest we should not err on the safe side—wisely, of course,—I care not with how broad and comprehensive a regard to the future—but in large, generous, effectual measure.

“And you, our guest, fearless, eloquent, large of heart and of mind, whose one thought is the salvation of oppressed Hungary, unfortunate, but undiscouraged, struck down in the battle of liberty, but great in defeat, and gathering strength for triumphs to come, receive the assurance at our hands, that in this great attempt of man to repossess himself of the rights which God gave him, though the strife be waged under a distant belt of longitude, and with the mightiest despotisms of the world, the Press of America will take part—will take, do I say?—already takes part with you and your countrymen.”

The Computer, Iowa State University and Jane Smiley

Dreams from the LORD 2011
22 February 2011

Yesterday I hitchhiked from Jackson to Riverton, Wyoming. I was watching TV at my friend’s place yesterday afternoon and I saw an interview on C-SPAN. This editor from The Washington Post was talking with Jane Smiley. Dr. Smiley was my professor for three days during the fall semester of 1989 at Iowa State University. Dr. Susan Carlson was pregnant, so several professors from the English Department filled in for her just before and after she gave birth.

Jane Smiley used to teach creative writing at Iowa State from 1981 to 1996. She has had a number of books published. In 1992, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in fiction for her novel A Thousand Acres. This book was later made into a film; the film was released in 1997.

In the C-SPAN interview, the Post editor and Jane Smiley were discussing her most recent book, THE MAN WHO INVENTED THE COMPUTER: The Biography of John Atanasoff, Digital Pioneer. Dr. Atanasoff was a physics professor at Iowa State in the 1930s and 40s. He helped invent the Atanasoff-Berry Computer. This was the first automatic electronic digital computer.

If I remember right, Jane Smiley’s favorite short story was “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka.

Desperate for God

Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006
11 April 2005

I John 2: 15-17: "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life." Let us look at the origins of sin in the earth and go back to Genesis 3: 6: "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant (Hebrew: "a desire") to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her: and he did eat."

"The lust of the flesh": "the tree was good for food." "The lust of the eyes": "it was pleasant to the eyes." "The pride of life": "a tree to be desired to make one wise." Look at the word "desire": it is a snare unto itself. Just because you are a Christian and you desire something doesn't mean that it is God's will that you have it. "But I have my needs!" Maybe your needs and your desires need to be put to death. Maybe the Lord wants you to be content with Him and Him alone before He deems it necessary to give you anything else.

Before I got saved, my desire in life was to be a writer. I wrote a novella at the age of twenty-one, but it never got published. I wrote several short stories and some poetry, but was never published. I got saved at the age of twenty-two. At the age of twenty-five, I burned all of my manuscripts--somewhere between ten to fifteen legal pads and notebooks--because I wanted God and God alone (seek the kingdom of Heaven first).

When I was twenty-eight, the Lord told me to go back to college. At Iowa State University, I majored in English Literature with a supporting field in Journalism and Mass Communications--I wrote a lot of papers and had a lot of essay tests. During college and just after college, I had a short story and two poems published (because it was God's will) by Ethos magazine. When I was thirty-nine, the Lord told me to write a book about hitchhiking. Now, at the age of forty-five, I am working on a journal. I may be writing this journal for the rest of my life. I don't see how it will ever be published, but there may be a few Christians out there who might appreciate it. If I get married and have children, then hopefully my children and descendents might get something out of it. If my journal glorifies God, then that is all that matters: the Lord will multiply my work and it will bear much fruit.

The key thing is this: I was desperate for God, not my writing. When the Lord could see that I was wholly dedicated to Him and absolutely locked into Him, then He told me to start writing. Don't get the cart before the horse: put God first. Then the Lord will provide the road and then the horse and then the cart and the destination where the goods need to be transported. Without God there is no road, there is no horse, there is no cart, there are no goods and there is no destination. Without God there is nothing.

My desire is to know God and to know Him more perfectly. The word "know" isn't having knowledge of God, but to experience God, to abide in God, to have the Presence of God invade and permeate my body, soul and spirit. Without intimacy with God, I can do nothing for my fellow man. I cannot turn the world upside down for Christ.

If a light bulb has no electricity running through it, it cannot give light in a dark place. If a light bulb is broken, it is useless. If a light bulb is not screwed into the socket, it is useless. If a Christian is busy chasing the world and is not abiding in Christ, He is useless. If our light is darkness, then how great is that darkness?

One of my heroes of the Christian faith is John Milton (1608-1674). Why did his life and writings affect so many millions in England, America and the rest of the world? Because his desire was to know God and to know Him more perfectly.

I am Baptized in the Holy Ghost and with Fire!

Samson with the jawbone of an ass

Dreams from the LORD 2003-2006
24 March 2005

John 4: 23-24: “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship. God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

The true worshippers. The full Gospel. The Holy Ghost and Scripture. Shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. There is a powerful balance when you have the power of the Holy Ghost and the knowledge of Scripture engrafted into your Spirit man. The Holy Ghost and Scripture is a two-edged sword that Satan hates. Satan can find ways to inflict damage on someone who is only in the Holy Ghost or who is only into Scripture. I think it is interesting to note that the word “spirit” precedes the word “truth”. We can’t get the cart before the horse. We need the Holy Ghost to teach us the Scripture. How can you understand Scripture if you are not born again? Then when you get baptized in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues, the Bible becomes an even more living, breathing document.

When Adam was in the Garden of Eden (before he sinned), he did not have the Law, the Prophets or the New Testament, but he did have the unbroken Presence of God (the Holy Ghost) to guide him and sustain him. The Lord did not have to give him a written book to tell Adam what to do, the Lord spoke to Adam in his spirit: Spirit to spirit: perfect communion.

And they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. It doesn’t say you must worship Him in a building. If a building has a pastor in it that is submitted to the Holy Ghost, then the congregation is in good hands. The congregation is in the building not because of the building, but because of the Holy Ghost.

When I meet people on the road, I don’t care if they are Pentecostal, Methodist, Roman Catholic, Baptist or non-churchgoers. I tell them about Jesus, the Word of God and the Holy Ghost. Let’s get the horse before the cart. Without a horse, the cart is dead in its tracks; without the cart, you can still ride the horse. John Wesley rode on horseback all over England: he didn’t need a cart. Wouldn’t it be beautiful if the Lord told some Holy Ghost believer to buy a horse and go on horseback and preach the Gospel in England? Or maybe it would be easier to hitchhike. America owes so much to England and the rest of Great Britain—a lot of powerful saints came out of Scotland and Wales. Get on your horse and ride in the power of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost Riders.

I Kings 18: 46: “And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.” In the back of my Bible I have a map of Israel and the distance between Mt. Carmel and Jezreel is about 25 miles. This old man named Elijah outran the king’s chariots in the power of the Holy Ghost. Some people hitchhike in the Holy Ghost, some people ride horses in the Holy Ghost and some people run in the Holy Ghost.

Sans teeth, sans taste, sans horse, sans everything.

I was working for Pike Construction back in Ames, Iowa and I was doing demolition work: I would use a sledgehammer and break down these brick and mortar walls, shovel it up into a garbage can and haul it out to this dump truck. One morning we got this new guy and he worked with me his first day. He was built like a brick house: he was around 5’ 9”, 235 pounds, had 19-inch biceps (that’s what he told me—maybe he only had 18-inch biceps)—he was a body builder. The second day he came to the job site, he said that he couldn’t keep up with me, so he would do carpenter work. That was okay with me because he had more experience than me in carpenter work. After about a week, this guy said to me, “Tim, how do you do it? You’re swinging that sledgehammer all day long and you don’t let up. Look at me; look at the size of my arms. Now look at you; look at the size of your arms (at the time I was 5’11” and 175 pounds). How do you do it? You never get tired.”

I looked at him and exclaimed, “Because I am baptized in the Holy Ghost and with Fire!”

The guy about had a heart attack. He didn’t know what to think. From that time on he would ask me questions about the Bible and spiritual things. So the moral of the story is: if you swing your sledgehammer in a responsible, Holy Ghost manner, someone eventually may enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Elijah . . . ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel in a responsible, Holy Ghost manner.

I came, I saw, I swung my sledgehammer in the power of the Holy Ghost. With the sledge of a hammer, heaps upon heaps, with the sledge of a hammer, have I slain a thousand men. And he cast the sledgehammer out of his hand and called that place Ramath-sledgehammer.

Judges 13: 25: “And the spirit of the Lord began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.”

One thing about Samson: at least he slew the Philistines in a responsible, Holy Ghost manner.

Homosexuality is a Sin

Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010
21 December 2010

Last night I had a dream. At first, I didn’t think it was from the Lord, but now I do. In the dream, I was at this Christian camp meeting talking with a high school buddy who was not a believer; I was talking to him about my Christian faith. Then there was this other guy—he acted very strange—he followed us to this cabin and then he went inside this restroom. I was talking with my high school buddy and we were both wondering what was wrong with that guy who followed us around and then walked into the restroom. Then we realized that he was a homosexual.

We left that cabin and walked to another cabin. Then all of these people walked into our cabin and it was very annoying. These people were talking and having a good time, but they had no interest in the Gospel. We were all at this Christian gathering, but there was no real fellowship going on. It was all a big social event, nothing spiritual was happening at all. It was very lukewarm, very worldly. It reminded me of a church that I attended back in Ames, Iowa back in 1987-1988—Great Commission Church—it was lukewarm, conformed to the world and very anti-Holy Ghost (they didn’t like people who heard from God [revelation knowledge] and obeyed God).

What does this dream mean? Most of the Christian churches in this country are too social, lukewarm and worldly. This is why homosexuality has infiltrated the churches and why some Christians think that homosexuality is not a sin. Homosexuality is a sin and the Lord is going to judge the United States because of homosexuality (they are teaching homosexuality to children in public schools) and the sin of abortion, idolatry and other sins. The Lord created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

He Beheld the City and Wept Over It

Jesus weeping over Jerusalem

Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010
1 December 2010

Luke 19: 41-44: “And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it. Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side. And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.”

“He beheld the city and wept over it.”

There have been times in my life when I have wept in the Holy Ghost (as opposed to weeping in the flesh or weeping with fleshly emotion). Usually, when I have wept in the Holy Ghost, it is because someone or a group of people have rejected Christ within me. Either they rejected the words that came out of my mouth or they rejected my life of obedience to the Lord.

Sometimes I think that this weeping is a warning to people in sin or a premonition of God’s wrath to come. I once wept violently at the altar of this church back in Iowa because they rejected the Holy Ghost. I once wept over a relative of mine who was an unbeliever—that relative was very antagonistic towards the Gospel.

The Lord had me hitchhike to New York state back in 1998; I visited a church in Manhattan and I began to weep quietly as I sat in the pew. I have always wondered why that happened. I guess there was something wrong with that church that I couldn’t see with my physical eyes. The Holy Ghost searches and knows and judges all things. I sat in that pew for two hours meditating on the Lord; when I walked out of that church, the Holy Ghost fell gloriously on me and I was burning up with the Presence of God the rest of the day. It seemed like the Lord was rewarding me for walking out of that church.

Shiloh
By Tim Shey

Brutal deathdance;
My eyes weep blood.
Pharisees smile like vipers,
They laugh and mock their venom:
Blind snakes leading
The deaf and dumb multitude.

Where are my friends?
The landscape is dry and desolate.
They have stretched my shredded body
On this humiliating tree.

The hands that healed
And the feet that brought good news
They have pierced
With their fierce hatred.

The man-made whip
That opened up my back
Preaches from a proper pulpit.
They sit in comfort:
That vacant-eyed congregation.
The respected, demon-possessed reverend
Forks his tongue
Scratching itchy ears
While Cain bludgeons
Abel into silence.

My flesh in tattered pieces
Clots red and cold and sticks
To the rough-hewn timber
That props up my limp, vertical carcase
Between heaven and earth.
My life drips and puddles
Below my feet,
As I gaze down dizzily
On merciless eyes and dagger teeth.

The chapter-and-versed wolves
Jeer and taunt me.
Their sheepwool clothing
Is stained black with the furious violence
Of their heart of stone.
They worship me in lip service,
But I confess,
I never knew them
(Though they are my creation).

My tongue tastes like ashes:
It sticks to the roof of my mouth.
I am so thirsty.
This famine is too much for me.
The bulls of Bashan have bled me white.
Papa, into your hands
I commend my Spirit.

A Large, Daily Newspaper

Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010

7 December 2008

Last night I had the longest dream I have had in years. In the dream, I was working as a reporter for a large, daily newspaper in New York City. Then the newspaper promoted me to having my own column. The newspaper offices were located in a big building in downtown Manhattan. There were many people that worked at that newspaper. The dream was very long; most of the details are gone from me now.

[I have had this Google blog since February of 2010; it is similar to a newspaper: posts are being published and people are reading them. A large, daily newspaper in New York City has a worldwide circulation (e.g. The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal); my blog (High Plains Drifter) is getting pageviews from all over the world. Earlier this year, I deleted most of my wallsofjericho website because the Lord wanted me to set up my Google blog; it is like a promotion—my blog is probably getting more hits than my wallsofjericho website ever did. My blog has a more readable format (easier on the eyes) and is better organized than my website. The “big building in downtown Manhattan” is Google; they probably have big buildings in major cities throughout the world. The “many people that worked at the newspaper” are all of the people that work for Google and the people who use Google for their blogs.]

[I think it is interesting that I had this dream one day before my book High Plains Drifter: a Hitchhiking Journey Across America was published.]

17 June 2022

Last night I had a dream where I was probably hitchhiking (because I had my backpack).  I met this guy and gave him some papers that I had written.  He was an editor of a newspaper.  He published these papers in his newspaper.  The newspaper was The Des Moines Register (Des Moines, Iowa).  All of a sudden, this newspaper article caused quite a sensation.  Many people were talking about it.

The last scene of the dream:  I was in this boxcar (maybe I had been riding a freight train) and this crowd of people in the boxcar were talking to me about the newspaper article (it made the front page of The Des Moines Register).  I then noticed my backpack on the ground.  I jumped out of the boxcar, grabbed the backpack and walked away from the crowd.

4 July 2022

Last night I had a dream where I was riding in the back seat of this car. There were two people in the front seat: a newspaper publisher from Iowa and his wife. I knew them back in the 1980s. He was driving the car. He stopped the car and got out for some reason. I was talking with his wife and asked about her children and if they were married. She talked about her children and then she asked me if I ever got married. I told her that I never got married; that the nice thing about not being married is that my wife and my children will never meet the Jerry Shey family.

A Political Memory - 1968

George Romney and Ronald Reagan

Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010
22 September 2010

Back in 1968 when I was eight years old, our family was at my Grandpa [Dan] Shey’s farm in rural Red Oak, Iowa. We were all at the dinner table when Grandpa Shey mentioned that U.S. Senator Gene McCarthy (Democrat, Minnesota) was going to be in Corning for his presidential campaign. We all got into two cars and drove to Corning. I don’t remember much about Senator McCarthy, but I do remember looking at this guy on the roof of this building—he was carrying a rifle (probably Secret Service). I also remember a local TV news crew that was there; I am guessing it was from Omaha.

As far as I know, that was the only time in my life that I have seen a presidential candidate on the campaign trail.

My first recollection of a political convention was the Republican National Convention in 1968. This is probably odd since I came from a long line of Irish Catholic Democrats. The thing I remember most was when the TV showed a close-up of Governor George Romney of Michigan (1963-1969).

A Pie in the Face and a Riot in a Church

Dreams from the LORD 2007-2010
1 September 2010

Last night I had a dream where I was sitting in a church. This church was packed with people; it looked like someone’s funeral; the men wore suits and the women wore nice dresses. During the funeral service, this man stood up in his pew and was going to give a small speech about the man who recently died. The man who died obviously was well-known in the community—maybe a prominent businessman. The man who stood up to give his speech barely started speaking when I turned and saw this woman take a crème pie and throw it at him—the pie hit him in the face. The amazing thing is that the woman was twenty or thirty feet away. She really hit the target.

There was a great uproar in the church after this happened. The woman who threw the pie was dressed very proper. She seemed very civilized except that she threw a pie in a man’s face in a church. It seemed so out of place that she would do such a thing. After she threw the pie, she began to cry. She said something like, “I didn’t want to throw the pie! I don’t know why I did it! It’s like someone made me throw the pie!”

I walked over to this woman and told her, “You were supposed to throw that pie in his face because he is a false Christian.” The place turned into a riot—I think there were people having fistfights. I believe another reason she threw the pie was because the man who died was a false Christian. The man who was trying to give the speech was a friend of the deceased; he was going to lie about a man who lived a lie.

I walked away from the church with my friends. We walked into this building and talked with this man. I told him about the riot in the church. Then he said, “Let us pray.” We all bowed our heads to pray, but nobody said anything. Then the dream ended.

Excerpts from "The Poor in Ames"

Iowa State University

By Bethany Kohoutek

Homelessness in Ames

Lurking underneath the seemingly affluent, professional surface of Ames [Iowa], there is a subculture of people whose problems are life and death and stories are rarely heard. While the ranks of homeless are spiraling out of control, mercilessly leaving less fortunate people behind, the same economic forces are propelling other Ames residents to wealth and prosperity. This is a story about those who aren't making the cut or don't want to in the first place, a story of the ups and downs of life on the road--or the street.

Homelessness is a word that the average Iowa State college student probably doesn't think twice about. But even as students gripe about waiting for CyRide buses in the cold, someone is sleeping under a bridge only blocks away using a plastic sheet to keep warm. As students complain about small dorm rooms and shared bathrooms, one family per day is evicted in Ames because it can't make rent.

Students from larger cities may scoff at the notion that homelessness and poverty are major issues in Ames. Although there is no one begging for spare change on Lincoln Way, homelessness does exist in Ames. The fact that it is less of a problem than in other, larger cities just makes it worse. Because it isn't thrown in your face every day, it's easy to forget about these people.

"If a tornado came through Ames and blew away a dozen homes, it would be front-page news," Moss [Vic Moss, executive director of the Emergency Residence Project] says. "And yet when we have this kind of devastation happening on a daily basis where families are being broken apart by this, it's not covered at all."

Moss estimates that there are around 50 homeless people each night in Ames. There is no one way to stereotype this population. Each situation is different, and Moss says the shelter sees everyone from "saints to sinners."

Life on the Road

Some people living in Ames without a home do have options. But according to them, street life is the best option.

At 4:15 on a Saturday afternoon, there are seven men congregated in the living room of the Emergency Adult Project adult shelter. They have just come back from work, and the atmosphere is laid back and comfortable as the men chat amiably with each other.

This population of single, transient men (and the occasional woman) makes up the majority of the shelter's clientele. These men come and go, with no intention of staying in Ames for any substantial amount of time. However, they make up a large percentage of Ames' homeless statistics. The difference between this population and other homeless children and families in Ames is that most of the men in the living room do not want to get into permanent housing, even if it was provided for them. They insist they're homeless by personal choice, not because of any particular hardship. The self-bestowed title of 'hobo' is a term of endearment to them. Some have road names like Duke and Bullet, and speak of fellow travelers with names like Little Lizzie, the Road King, and Dakota Butch.

These men usually come to shelters to take a temporary rest from their travels to "bathe, eat, sleep, be at peace, and still make a little money," says Bullet.

"There's a difference between 'without a home' and 'homeless,'" Bullet explains. "Most people don't even know what a real hobo is. A hobo is without a home because he chooses to be. He is a man who is a traveler at heart. He works. He has clothes. He has money in his pocket. If he wants prime rib for dinner, he can reach into his pocket and pay for it."

The men have various reasons for being on the road. Some have been on the road since their early teens, and it is all they know. Others may have gone through a divorce or lost a job. Still others may have had a steady job and a family, and simply "burned out" on the routine of day-to-day life.

"We don't want to settle down and accept the political society," says Bullet. "No president, no government is gonna tell us what we're gonna do. We will not be told 'You will get up at 6:00. You will get to work by 7:00. You will punch the clock by 7:01. Then you will punch out at 3:30.' It's monotony. With us, that just doesn't work. Everyday is a new adventure. We are one of the last signs of real, true freedom."

Duke, who is 57 years old, "rides the rails" to get from place to place.

He left home at 14 because he wanted to travel--to see the country, meet new people, and because "it's a lot easier and a lot more mellow this way." He has four children and seven grandchildren who live in various places around the country. He occasionally sees them when he is in the neighborhood. If he gets bored staying in one place too long, it doesn't take much for him to "kick mud", to move on. He says he has been to every state in the contiguous United States as well as Mexico and Canada. He likes Iowa because people seem outgoing and friendly to him.

Shelter stays are fairly uncommon for him; he would rather sleep outside in his tent, even in the winter.

"I've been out here so long, I know how to live out in this. It's all just experience," he says.

Wherever he goes, he carries a 65-pound pack on his back that holds his tent, a change of clothes, campfire-making materials, a flashlight, string, a bedroll, a tarp, and a folded up sign that says "Will Work For Food. Thanks. God Bless." Most of his money is spent on groceries and tobacco, and besides his smokers' cough, he says he rarely gets sick.

Others have entirely different reasons for traveling.

Tim, who is one of the younger men in the shelter's living room, graduated from Iowa State with a degree in English. He actually had two religious poems and a short story published in Ethos. He said that in the future he plans to settle down, get married and have a family.

"I'm a Christian; I hitchhike by faith," he says. "I am being led by the Holy Spirit wherever I go. I share my faith with other people. I've met a lot of great people, and I've learned a lot from them. In fact, these pants were given to me by a family in Texas. My coat was given to me by a guy in Wyoming. Things like that. You meet so many neat people. I can't complain."

Hearing Tim talk, Bullet is quick to interject that things aren't always so easy going on the road.

"Everybody always tries to glorify it. You don't hear about the nights under the bridge, or sleeping alongside the interstate in the rain and cold. You don't hear about standing out there on a ramp when it is 35 below zero wind chill, and you got frost formed to your mustache and your hair. It can be real tough, lonely, scary. That's the downside."

"I think Bob Seger said it best," says Bullet, "'Turn the page.' Life's a book. Each day you turn the page to something different. It could be great, or it could be a real sh*thole."

Moss says that usually during summer months, there are some people who live under bridges, along the railroad, and in the wooded areas of Ames.

There is one such place under a bridge not far from campus. Plywood and plastic sheeting have been set up to make a little lean-to against the girders of the underside of the bridge. Bags of collected cans and bottles surround a green sleeping bag that is neatly laid out on the dirt. Nearby is a blackened spot in the dirt, which still smells of charcoal and lighter fluid, and various food cans are scattered around the fire pit.

There is a greening picture of Jesus looking heavenward duck-taped to the cement that forms the back wall of the makeshift dwelling. A six-inch angel statue, in perfect condition, is standing upright on the ground nearby, surrounded by other miscellaneous items--Hy-Vee Charcoal Starters, an empty pack of Camel lights, a few bottles of Hawkeye vodka, an old pair of jeans, and a few T-shirts.
